Dr. Rebecca Berru Davis is Assistant Professor in Theology at St. °µÍø½ûÇø in St. Paul, MN. She earned her degree in the area of Art and Religion with a focus on Latinx and Latin American Theologies at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA. She was a Hispanic Theological Initiative Fellow and held a two-year Louisville Institute Post-Doctoral Fellowship at St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN. Rebecca is interested in the intersection of art, faith, and justice as a way to understand the spiritual and religious expressions of those located on the margins of society. She is particularly focused on Latin American and U.S. Latina women’s creative activity in the home, the community, and the church. Her ethnographic work takes her to women’s art collectives located in the shantytowns outside of Lima, Peru and to communities along the U.S. Mexico Border. Among her long-standing activist project is Picturing Paradise, an exhibition that links the Global South and North (see more information below). Rebecca's dissertation drew on archival material to bring to light the contributions made by Catholic women artists in the United States: Women Artists of the Early Liturgical Movement: 1932-1962: The Contributions of E. Charlton Fortune, Ade Bethune, and Sister Helene O'Connor., OP. Her writing has been included in the Wiley Blackwell Companion to Latino/a Theologies, U.S. Catholic Historian, and in anthologies focused on women's contributions to theology, spirituality, and religious studies.
