Money Management

We want St. Kate's students to understand and develop personal financial management skills that contribute to purposeful life-long learning. To that end, we provide comprehensive information and resources designed to teach students the life skills of personal finance and money management.


Office Hours

Office hours are Monday - Thursday from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. We are closed on Fridays. Email us at moneymentors@stkate.edu for assistance.

Log in at using your St. Kate's email address. Then, watch videos, take quizzes, read articles, and use their tools to improve your financial knowledge on a myriad of topics, such as paying for school, buying a car, creating a budget, building credit, housing, and much more!


Peer Financial Counseling

St. Kate's peer money mentors are students specially trained in money matters by Lutheran Social Service Financial Counseling and Debt Management, Synchrony Financial, and various St. Kate's departments.

The peer money mentors help with

  • putting together a budget
  • finding scholarships
  • tracking government loans
  • free tax preparation resources
  • understanding and building credit
  • identity theft and fraud protection
  • saving strategies
  • managing debt and debt stress

Get their help by

  • visiting them whenever the lights are on and someone is in CdC 211
  • setting up an appointment through email or by calling 651-690-6815
  • attending one of their Money Doesn't Grow on Trees events or programs put on with groups around campus
  • requesting they present on a money management topic at your club, for your residence hall floor, in the classroom, at a senate meeting or other occasion (give at least two weeks' notice)

In addition to personal financial counseling, we offer presentations and workshops that address financial topics relevant to students. This programming is made possible through the efforts of the peer money mentors, the wonderful guest speakers, and gift monies from outside resources.

Professional Financial Counseling

If you or your family are experiencing complicated budgeting, debt and financial issues, have been the victims of identity theft, or you prefer to work with an outside professional rather than a peer, contact Lutheran Social Services (LSS) Financial Counseling of Minnesota. As a Katie, you are eligible for six free and confidential appointments through a grant with our office.
