The St. °µÍø½ûÇø track and field team could not have asked for a better start to the 2017 outdoor season. The Wildcats had several student-athletes set new personal records (PR) and crack the program’s top-10 list at the Hamline Invite. One of those athletes was sophomore thrower Kaylea Hoenigschmidt (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka), who has been named Wildcat Athlete-of-the-Week for her performance on Saturday.
Hoenigschmidt had a career day at Hamline on Saturday, as she not only set a new PR in the hammer throw, but also cracked St. Kate’s top 10 list. Hoenigschmidt threw the hammer 42.49 meters on the final throw of the event, crushing her previous PR, which she set last season. More impressively, Hoenigschmidt’s throw puts her fifth all-time in Wildcat history, .25 meters behind Christina Ramsdell’s No. 4 throw of 42.47 meters.
Hoenigschmidt and the rest of St. Kate's track and field team will return to action next weekend, when the Wildcats compete at the Saint John’s Invite in Collegeville, Minnesota.
