St. �������� congratulates the following Katies who have been awarded these prestigious international and national fellowships:

Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship Award

Olivia Dunn ’20

Dunn, who graduated from St. Kate’s in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in English and a minor in French, applied to Fulbright as a master’s student at University of Iowa, where she graduated in May with a degree in linguistics. She has received a 2023–24 Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship Award to Morocco, where she will teach English at a university and get involved with a community organization.

Dunn’s long-term plans include pursuing a PhD in second language education. she thanked St. Kate’s faculty and staff members Allison Adrian, PhD; Mysee Chang ’13; and Joanne Cavallaro, PhD, all of whom “helped [Dunn] develop a passion for language and interest in international education while [she] was an undergraduate.”

St. Kate’s alumna Morgan Weyrens-Welch ’21 has been named a Fulbright Alternate for a Research Award in Paraguay, and will have a chance to be awarded a Fulbright grant if funding becomes available.

Each year thousands of students around the globe compete for the highly prestigious Fulbright program, which has been setting the standard for competitive scholarships since 1946. Fulbright students are globally proficient and community-engaged in their navigation of cultures that are not a part of the United States’ super-culture. 

Goldwater Scholar

Hannah Hausman ’24

Hausman was one of 1,267 STEM students selected as a , out of an estimated pool of over 5,000 college sophomores and juniors. They plan to pursue a PhD in molecular biology, specializing in biomedical regenerative sciences with a focus on treatment and prevention of chronic diseases.

The federally-endowed scholarship program, which honors Senator Barry Goldwater, aims to foster and encourage outstanding undergraduate students to pursue research careers in the fields of the natural sciences, engineering, and mathematics.

U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship (CLS)

Josibeth Aguilera ’25

Aguilera is one of 500 students selected by the State Department out of 5,000 applicants to study languages overseas this summer at an intensive study abroad institute. Aguilera is part of the St. Kate’s Civic Engagement Fellows Program and has also been involved in Community Work and Learning’s Community Leaders program with the Sisters of St. Joseph Social Justice Office. Through the , she will spend the summer studying Russian in the country of Georgia.

Maria Ngangsic-Asongu ’25

Ngangsic-Asongu was a recipient of CLS Spark, an initiative of the CLS program, to study Mandarin Chinese over the summer virtually. She declined in order to accept a different summer fellowship, the Advancing Black Pathways Fellowship Program at JPMorgan.

U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program

Several current St. Kate’s students have also been awarded scholarships through the , which provides students with opportunities to study and intern abroad, building unique cultural perspectives, professional skills, language abilities, and world knowledge. 

Spring 2023 Recipients:

Maya Radtke ’25 is an international studies major who plans to study abroad in Wellington, New Zealand next spring. 

Nayomi Her ’24 is majoring in economics and public policy and plans to study abroad over J-term. 

Yesica Salgado Palma ’24 is a public health major who plans to study abroad in Seoul, South Korea in the fall.
