The St. °µÍø½ûÇø softball team continued to move up the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) standings last week. Thanks to splits against St. Thomas and Carleton and a sweep of Bethel, the Wildcats currently sit in a tie for third place in the MIAC standings, with a 7-3 record in conference play. Key to St. Kate’s success last week was third baseman Jenna George (Ellsworth, Wis.), who has been named Wildcat Athlete-of-the-Week.
George had yet another outstanding week for the Wildcats offensively, recording at least one hit and one extra base hit in five of St. Kate’s six games. The sophomore batted .476 with seven extra base hits, including three home runs during the course of the week. In St. Kate's 10-4 comeback win over St. Thomas, George was 3-5 with two runs and three RBIs and nearly helped the Wildcats comeback to sweep the Tommies in game two. Down 10-6 in the top of the seventh, George hit a lead off home run to cut the lead to 10-7 and also hit a double to jumpstart St. Kate’s five run fourth inning.
She also had impressive games against Bethel and Carleton, and helped the Wildcats score a combined 21 runs on Saturday and Sunday. George hit the first grand slam of her collegiate career in St. Kate’s 12-0 win over Bethel and also hit a two-run blast in the Wildcats 13-2 win over Carleton on Sunday.
Overall, George currently leads the MIAC in RBIs (34) and home runs (6) and is second in batting average (.476).
