In the course of your degree journey in ASL and Deaf Communities at St. °µÍø½ûÇø, you will have the chance to participate in meaningful service-learning experiences, including collaboration with several organizations such as the , , Thompson Hall Deaf Club, Minnesota Commission of the Deaf, Deaf-Blind & Hard of Hearing, , Minnesota Deaf Muslim Community, among others. These partnerships enhance the learning experience and further our commitment to social justice and equity.
In addition to local involvement, our ASL and Deaf Communities students have demonstrated their commitment to community engagement on a global scale. They have contributed their time and skills in volunteer or intern capacities with government agencies, theatrical venues, community, and political organizations, extending their reach to international efforts in regions.
Our students emerge as trained ASL communicators, passionate advocates of Deaf culture, critical thinkers, ethical decision-makers, and committed allies in the Deaf Community. They stand as leaders in the field and are well-equipped for credential acquisition, with their education deeply grounded in the principles of social justice and equity.
Upon graduation, you will find a broad spectrum of professional arenas to utilize your skills and promote social justice, equity, allyship, partnership, support, and access. These fields often include community organizations, education, government, or healthcare, where our graduates excel as administrators and service providers.
*The term Deaf refers to various Deaf simultaneous and intersectional identities and ways of being in this world. Intersectionality shows us that social identities work on multiple levels, resulting in unique experiences, opportunities, and barriers for each person.
