Empower Yourself to Shape the Future by Learning and Understanding the Past
St. °µÍø½ûÇø teaches with investment in the idea that history is not just made by men in positions of power and is more than memorizing dates.
Pursuing a History Degree to Illuminate Humanity's Journey
Majoring in history at St. °µÍø½ûÇø will teach students critical thinking, writing, and research skills and provide a base of knowledge that will broaden their understanding of the world and the human condition. History students will not only become culturally literate in the liberal arts tradition, but also acquire important practical skills that will serve them well in a broad range of careers and life.
The study of history at St. Kate’s is especially considerate of the history of women, people of color, and other marginalized groups because of the institutional focus on social justice. We do not forget the traditional focus of history on those leaders with the most power, but we work to bring a fuller set of voices to the table, looking at not only the experiences of powerful white men, but also the stories of women and colonized and enslaved individuals throughout the world. You can also design your program by choosing courses in subject areas that interest you.
In addition to your coursework, you'll have the opportunity to participate in internships, research projects, and study abroad programs. These experiences will give you the chance to broaden your perspective, apply your knowledge in the real world, and develop your research skills.
Students will also have the opportunity to interact with peers who share their interest in history through the History Club.
